It was one of the attached units of the Beijing Chemical Society, the Chemical Education Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society, the Asian Radiation Curing Association and one of the sponsors of Chemical Education, a journal of the Chinese Chemical Society.

There are 121 faculty members in the College of Chemistry, including 65 professors, 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 chief expert of the 973 Program, 2 members in the National Thousand-Talent Plan, 2 Chang Jiang Scholars, 10 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 2 members in the National Ten Thousand-Talent Plan and 7 members in the National Thousand-Young-Talent Plan.

The College of Chemistry has a post-doctoral research center, with seven disciplines including inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, theoretical and physical chemistry, polymer chemistry and physics, chemical education and pharmaceutical chemistry, for all of which the college has the right to grant doctoral degrees. Physical chemistry is a national key discipline, while inorganic and organic chemistry is a municipal key discipline in Beijing. The college has 3 provincial and ministerial-level key laboratories, including the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Radiopharmaceuticals, the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Theoretical and Computational Photochemistry, and the Beijing Key Laboratory of Energy Conversion and Storage Materials. Other research centers include the National Chemical Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center, the National Virtual Simulation Experiment Teaching Center, the Institute of Applied Chemistry and the Shihong Drug Research Center, etc.

In recent years, the college has won many national education and teaching achievement prizes; undertaken a large number of research projects; and conducted extensive international exchanges and cooperation.
