The Global Dryland Ecosystem Programme Has Been Included in the United Nations' Strategic Plan for the Implementation of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development
Recently, the Global Dryland Ecosystem Programme (Global-DEP) was selected for the third batch of recognized programs of the United Nations' International Decade for Science for Sustainable Development (IDSSD). The IDSSD was officially established by the United Nations General Assembly on August 25, 2023, and is led and implemented by UNESCO. This plan aims to strengthen and demonstrate the core role of science in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and promote the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The selection is not only a full recognition of the achievements of Global-DEP, but also will provide a broader international cooperation platform for the in-depth research on the socio-ecosystem in arid areas on a Global scale in the second stage. In the future, Global-DEP will unite Global scientists to jointly tackle key problems by establishing thematic working groups and holding international consultation conferences, etc., and strive to produce practical solutions to provide solid scientific support for ecological security and people's well-being in arid areas around the world.
