Journal Geography and Sustainability continues to grow in international influence

Recently, the 2023 edition of the World Journal Clout Index (WJCI) Report for Science and Technology Journals was officially released. The 2023 edition of the WJCI Report assesses 15,555 global scientific and technical journals, including 1,772 Chinese journals. There are 130 Chinese journals ranked in the top 5% of the world or in the top 3 of the discipline rankings in terms of the relevant evaluation indexes. Geography and Sustainability belongs to the discipline of Physical Geography physical geography, with an Impact Factor Ranking of 1, an Impact Factor Discipline Ranking in the top 5% and in the top 3 of the discipline rankings.


Geography and Sustainability (ISSN 2096-7438) is an international English-language academic open-access journal (quarterly) focusing on geography and sustainability research, which is supervised by the Ministry of Education, hosted by Beijing Normal University, and published globally by Beijing Normal University Press (Group) Ltd. and Elsevier Publishing Group. The content of the journal includes but is not limited to the following themes: geographic processes, ecosystem services and human well-being, human-environmental systems, sustainable development, and geo-data and sustainability models.


The journal was founded in March 2020, and in 2018, it was funded by the Class D project of the International Influence Enhancement Program of Chinese Science and Technology Journals, and has been included in domestic and international databases such as Scopus database, Web of Science (ESCI), GEOBASE, NSD, DOAJ, CSCD, China Directory of High-Quality Journals in the Field of Geography and Resources, CNKI, Wanfang Data, Superstar Journals and so on. Also, it was selected as "China's most internationally influential academic Journal (Natural Science and Engineering Technology)".


In 2022, the JCI(Journal Citation Indicator) of Geography and Sustainability ranked 3/63rd in the field of physical geography and 5/84th in the field of green and sustainable science and technology respectively, showing the journal’s internationally leading influence in related disciplines.
