The 2026 Jingshi World Literature Festival Was Held at Beijing Normal University
From June 16th to 18th, the "2026 Jingshi World Literature Festival" was held at Beijing Normal University(BNU). It is a high-end international literary exchange platform meticulously crafted by BNU with the support of the Chinese Writers Association and the academic guidance of the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles, relying on the Beijing International Book Fair. It aims to gather global literary forces and to build an open, inclusive, diverse, symbiotic and in-depth dialogue communication space for writers, translators, critics, publishers, scholars and readers from all over the world.
On the afternoon of June 18th, the main event of the "2026 Jingshi World Literature Festival", "Symposium on China by World Writers", was held at BNU. Over forty writers, poets, and publishers from more than ten countries—including China, the United States, Germany, Canada, Italy, and Spain—gathered under the theme "Literary Echoes: China and the World in Literature Creations" to explore the current pulse of global literary development and the specific influence of Chinese literature across the world. The main event was hosted by BNU and China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Co., Ltd., and organized by the Jingshi Academy and the School of Chinese Language and Literature at BNU. He Xiangyang, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the China Writers Association; Kang Zhen, Vice President of BNU; Lai Hongbo, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles; and Li Yue, Assistant General Manager of China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Co., Ltd., attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Xiao Kai, Deputy Director of the Jingshi Academy, presided over the opening ceremony.

He Xiangyang pointed out that literature is a universal spiritual language for humanity. In today's world where globalization is constantly developing and cultural exchanges are becoming increasingly frequent, the value of literature is becoming more and more prominent. In the present era, it is an important mission for the Chinese literary circle to carry forward the fine traditional Chinese culture, promote the international dissemination of Chinese literature, tell China's stories well and spread China's voice well. The Chinese Writers Association has always attached great importance to promoting literary exchanges and cooperation between China and foreign countries, actively building international cultural exchange platforms. In the future, it will continue to organize mutual visits by Chinese and foreign writers and the translation of outstanding works, helping Chinese literature go global.

Kang Zhen pointed out that BNU has always been a fertile ground for literature, where a large number of literary giants once taught. Since the new era, BNU has produced a large number of outstanding writers, poets and scholars with influence both at home and abroad. Relying on the Institute of Chinese Culture and Jingshi Academy, the school is creating the "2026 Jingshi World Literature Festival", aiming to build a world-class exchange platform in the field of literature, explore how "Chinese stories" can be heard and continue to resonate around the world, and use literary exchange and mutual learning as a carrier to enable the world to understand a real, three-dimensional and comprehensive China.

Lai Hongbo said that literary exchange is an important bridge for mutual respect and mutual learning among different civilizations. Beijing is the cultural center of China and an international exchange center. It has a profound historical and cultural heritage and is a gathering place for cultural and artistic talents. In recent years, it has continuously launched international cultural exchange platforms such as the Beijing Cultural Forum and the Beijing International Literature Week. The "Jingshi World Literature Festival" will become a brand-new platform for cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries in Beijing. The Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles will always be committed to inviting writers, translators, sinologists and publishers from all over the world to understand China and delve into Beijing, promoting the two-way exchange of literary works between China and foreign countries, and achieving the resonance of diverse cultures in Beijing.

Starting from her experience of studying at BNU, Li Yue shared her thoughts on China and the world in her creations. She said that the overseas outreach of Chinese literature has become increasingly clear and three-dimensional in practice. The Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), a brand event organized by China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Corporation, has witnessed over the past four decades that writers and translators from various countries have jointly paved the way for literary exchanges. BIBF will continue to highlight the unique value of Chinese literary creation in the global context.

Subsequently, Kang Zhen and Li Yue jointly released the book "Chinese Literature in World Perspective", which was compiled by BNU and China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Corporation.

The keynote speech session of the "Symposium on China by World Writers" was divided into two halves. The first half focused on creative practice, while the second half emphasized translation, research and cross-cultural communication.

During the "2026 Jingshi World Literature Festival," in addition to the signature event "Symposium on China by World Writers," a series of themed exchange activities were held across various categories, including Sci-Fi Session, Drama Session, Emerging Writers Session, and Russian Arts and Culture Session. Renowned poets and writers from multiple countries were invited to deliver lectures on campus, creating a multidimensional literary exchange platform that attracted nearly a thousand participants—students, faculty members, and literature enthusiasts—from both within and outside the university.
