The Third World Youth Dialogue-Civilizations and Mutual Learning Has Brought the Curtain Down
On July 4, the Third World Youth Dialogue-Civilizations and Mutual Learning has brought the curtain down at Beijing Normal University(BNU). This dialogue event is jointly organized by the School of Foreign Languages and Literature and Institute of Chinese Culture | Jingshi Academy. Young people from China, the United States, New Zealand, Russia, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and other countries freely expressed their opinions and engaged in a unique cultural exchange and dialogue.
Ai Xin, the Party Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature, Miao Xingwei, the Dean of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature, Xiao Kai, the Vice Dean of the Institute of Chinese Culture | Jingshi Academy, John Gray, a professor at University College London, and Tim Fadgen, an associate professor at the University of Auckland, Foreign teachers Kris Wootan, Andrew Cardoso and Cameron Mcrae from tthe School of Foreign Languages and Literature, and Oliver Hassan, an alumnus of the Cardiff University - Beijing Normal University joint training program, attended the opening ceremony. This event also invited Ms. Zhao Yang, an alumnus of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature at BNU and a host of CGTN, to attend and offer guidance.
At the opening ceremony, Xiao Kai delivered the opening speech. He reviewed the establishment process of the "World Youth Dialogue Brand" event, emphasizing that previous events have provided an international platform for students from various countries that combines the depth of academic exchanges, the breadth of ideological exchanges, and the warmth of cultural integration.
As an important part of the summer academic activities of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature, this year's event forms a thematic linkage with the summer Academy that was launched on June 30. Focusing on the five academic lecture themes of the Summer School, the dialogue event has set up four sub-forums. The themes of the sub-forums are Intercultural Communication and Global Competence, Multilingual Teaching and Artificial Intelligence, Literature and Translation in Civilizations and Cross-Temporal Dialogue of Linguistic Symbols. The young people from various countries attending the conference not only engaged in detailed and in-depth discussions around the theme, but also shared the achievements of cultural integration with the teachers and students present.
Wang Nan, the vice dean of the School of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature, expressed her gratitude at the closing ceremony to the young people from all over the world for traveling thousands of miles to gather here and jointly creating a valuable learning experience and precious friendship among classmates. She also encouraged everyone to continue to uphold the spirit of openness and inclusiveness, actively promote international cooperation, and join hands to write a new chapter of human civilization.
