Confucius Institute Contestants at the University of Manchester Achieved Further Success in the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition UK Regional Final

On June 6, local time, the 23rd "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition UK Regional Final and the 4th Chinese Competition of British College Students' Social Welfare and Business Innovation were held in London. Two contestants from the Confucius Institute at the University of Manchester, co-established by the school of International Chinese Language Education at Beijing Normal University, won the first and second place respectively.



After careful organization and arrangement, the Confucius Institute at the University of Manchester selected two contestants, Chidimma Daisy Anyakora, to participate in the "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students and won the champion; Julia Makosa competed in the Chinese Competition of British University Students' Social Welfare and Business Innovation and was the runner-up.




The theme of Chidimma Daisy Anyakora's speech was "My Love Story with Chinese ", which told about a romantic encounter at the gym when she was in high school that inspired her to learn Chinese. She has been learning Chinese since 2019, and sharing her learning experience on her social media account.




For Julia Makosa, the theme of 's her speech was "Heaven and Movement". She recalled her childhood illness experience, through which she found that Chinese traditional medicine was magical, , and then she developed a strong interest in Chinese philosophy and the five-element theory. She proposed an innovative program "Heaven and Movement" to attract more people to know about the fine traditional Chinese culture and finally achieve the sublimity that heaven and man are united as one and mutually develop in harmony.

Every year, the Confucius Institute at the University of Manchester recommends outstanding students to the "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, and this year it has achieved three consecutive championships, and for the first time organised the Chinese Competition of Social Welfare and Business Innovation, and won the second place. Through the joint efforts of the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute and the volunteer teachers from the School of International Chinese Language Education of Beijing Normal University, the contestants of the Confucius Institute made continuous progress, and delivered great speeches and gave wonderful performances, demonstrating their excellent Chinese skills and the conveying of their genuine feelings that eventually deeply touched the judges and the audience. They are amazing cultural mediators!

The "Chinese Bridge" competition has become an important window for Chinese learners and enthusiasts around the world to understand Chinese culture. This competition not only enhances the participants’s the understanding of Chinese culture, but enables the global spectators more directly appreciate charmful Chinese language and the colorful Chinese culture.The Chinese Bridge Competition for Foreign College Students is organized by the center for Language Education and Cooperation, and the UK Regional Competition is organized by the Chinese Bridge Club and Chinese Proficiency Test UK Committee.
