BNU Honorary Professor Nils Chr. Stenseth was elected as the foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences

On November 23, the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced the list of foreign academicians to be elected in 2023 and Nils Chr. Stenseth, honorary professor of BNU and co-chairman of the Global Change and Public Health Research Center from BNU, was elected as a foreign academician.



Nils Christian Stenseth from Norway is the professor at the University of Oslo. He has long been committed to the research of global change ecology and evolutionary biology and has made outstanding contributions to the development of world ecology. He has been elected as an academician or foreign academician in Norway, France, Finland, Russia, America, etc., and used to serve as President of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Chairman of the International Union of Biological Sciences.



In the past 20 years, Professor Stenseth has been working closely with domestic institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Tsinghua University, and Beijing Normal University. He has won the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China and the Chinese Government Friendship Award. Professor Stanseth used to visit Beijing Normal University with the Norwegian delegation many times and has carried out long-term cooperative research with BNU’s Global Change and Public Health Research Center. Recent collaborative research has found a correlation between intervention behavior and pathogen spectrum diversity, published in PNAS.


The Global Change and Public Health Research Center of BNU has leveraged its interdisciplinary advantages in recent years to make contributions to revealing the occurrence patterns of major biological disasters such as avian influenza, hemorrhagic fever, rabies, and Zika, and improving the early warning, prevention and control capabilities in China.
