The School of International Chinese Language Education Held a Theme Activity for the "International Chinese Language Day"

To welcome the 16th United Nations Chinese Language Day, the School of International Chinese Language Education at Beijing Normal University (BNU) held an event under the theme of "Chinese: A Gift Across Beijing Central Axis". This event was carried out in the form of a special lecture, walking along the Central Axis and in-depth understanding of the Central Axis relics to help international students deeply understand the Beijing Central Axis and learn about Chinese culture. The event attracted 15 international students from countries such as Russia, France, Italy, Poland, Australia, Costa Rica, Brazil, Peru, Mongolia, Indonesia and Vietnam to participate.




The Beijing Central Axis consists of a total of 15 heritage components. On the afternoon of April 13, the students set off from the Bell and Drum Towers at the northern end of the central axis, headed south through Wanning Bridge, climbed Jingshan Mountain, circled the Forbidden City, passed through Tiananmen Square and the architectural complex, and finally reached Zhengyang Gate, measuring the heritage sites along the central axis with their feet. Along the way, the students passed through many hutongs and districts in Beijing. The places they visited not only enabled them to conduct in-depth learning about the historical planning and modern layout of Beijing, but also allowed them to understand the beauty of "harmony", "order" and "daily life" in Beijing from more dimensions. During this period, the students were inspired and shared the history and culture of heritage sites such as the Bell and Drum Towers, Wanning Bridge, and Jingshan Park.







On the morning of April 14, Associate Professor Guo Chenguang from the School of International Chinese Language Education gave a special lecture on "Beijing and its Central Axis". She systematically introduced the heritage sites of Beijing central axis and their historical values.



Professor Wang Xuesong, the Party Secretary of the School of International Chinese Language Education, made a summary of the event. He pointed out that the event not only delved deeply into the stories and cultural connotations behind Beijing central axis, but also highlighted its unique value for the exchange and mutual learning of civilizations.


April 20 marks the Grain Rain solar term in China and also the 16th United Nations Language Day. The Center for Language Education and Cooperation, in collaboration with the Chinese Language Alliance, organizing a series of offline activities under the theme of "Chinese: A Gift Across Time and Space" for the "International Chinese Language Day".
