Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand Visited Beijing Normal University

From April 4 to 11, at the invitation of the Chinese government, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand visited China. On April 9, Princess Sirindhorn and her delegation visited Beijing Normal University (BNU). Yu Jihong, President of BNU, met with the delegation. Also present at the visit were Mr. Chatchai Viriyavejakul, Ambassador of Thailand to China, Wu Jun, Counsellor of the Department of Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Chen Xing, Vice President of BNU, and Zhou Zuoyu, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Normal University Council and Director of the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (INRULED).

Yu Jihong warmly welcomed Princess Sirindhorn on her return visit to BNU and reviewed the progress of cooperation between the University and Thailand in advancing education for sustainable development, youth exchange, and talent cultivation. She noted that the two sides have continued to deepen cooperation in capacity building, faculty and student exchanges, and STEM education, gradually forming a multi-level network of collaboration. She said that the Princess’s visit would further promote educational exchange and inject fresh momentum into China–Thailand cooperation in education.

During the visit, Princess Sirindhorn and her delegation toured BNU’s Online Education Resources Center to learn about BNU’s work in digital education and technology-enabled learning. They also visited an exhibition titled “China–Thailand Youth Exchange: Youth-led Action for Sustainable Rural Development.” The exhibition highlighted practical achievements made by young people from the two countries in areas such as climate change, sustainable agriculture, food security, community development, and global competence. Princess Sirindhorn spoke highly of BNU’s exploration and practice in empowering education through technology. She also expressed appreciation for the exchanges between Chinese and Thai youth in promoting rural sustainable development.

Princess Sirindhorn Visited the Themed Exhibition “China–Thailand Youth Exchange: Youth-led Action for Sustainable Rural Development”



For many years, BNU has actively promoted educational exchange and cooperation with Thailand and carried out a range of initiatives in rural sustainable development, youth exchange, and talent cultivation. Taking this visit as an opportunity, BNU will further deepen cooperation with Thailand in education, youth development, and sustainable development, work together to cultivate more young talent with global vision and social responsibility, and contribute to China–Thailand friendship and common development.
