On the afternoon of August 19, the 2026 Global High-Level Dialogue on Teacher Development was held at Beijing Normal University(BNU). The event was hosted by the Institute of Global Teacher Development and organized by the School of Continuing Education and Teacher Training, the Africa Institute of the Institute of Global Teacher Development (BNU), and the China-Africa Teacher Education Center. High-level officials in the field of teacher development from Tonga, Cameroon, Guinea, and Benin engaged in an on-site dialogue with Huang Xiaohua, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Teacher Education of the Ministry of Education; Wang Wei, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Foundation for Teacher Development; Wang Ming, Vice President of BNU; and a relevant official from the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education.

The official from the Department of Teacher Education noted that China has the world's largest teaching force. Through years of practice, China has developed a relatively comprehensive system for teacher cultivation, training, and mobility—these are the "Chinese experiences" that China is willing to share. China will uphold the principles of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation, and will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with other countries in the field of teacher development, supporting high-quality educational development with high-quality teacher workforce development.

Wang Ming introduced the working directions of the Institute of Global Teacher Development. The Institute will focus on Global South countries, advancing efforts in four key areas: helping countries improve their local teacher development systems, providing a future-oriented cloud-based infrastructure for teacher development, building a diverse collaborative network for global teacher development, and conducting high-level academic research on teacher development. These efforts aim to deepen and substantiate international exchanges on teachers in the new era and contribute BNU's solutions to global teacher development.

High-level education officials from Tonga, Cameroon, Guinea, and Benin delivered presentations on the current state of their countries' educational development and their visions for cooperation.

This high-level dialogue served as an important bridge for diverse communication, consolidating a consensus among all parties on advancing teacher development cooperation. The Institute of Global Teacher Development will take this dialogue as a new starting point to continue deepening international exchanges and cooperation on teachers with Global South countries, contributing teacher workforce strength to the development of a globally influential center of educational excellence.
