Professor Carolyn R. Bertozzi, the winner of Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Gave a Lecture at Beijing Normal University
On August 29, Professor Carolyn R. Bertozzi, the winner of Nobel Prize in Chemistry, delivered a keynote speech titled "Bioorthogonal chemistry: from basic science to clinical translation". Yu Jihong, President of Beijing Normal University; Fang Weihai, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chairperson of the Association for Science and Technology of Beijing Normal University and Professor of the College of Chemistry; Chen Xing, Vice President of Beijing Normal University, relevant responsible persons of the Office of Science and the College of Chemistry, and over a hundred teachers and students attended this report meeting. The meeting was presided over by Chen Xing.
Before the report meeting, Yu Jihong met with Professor Bertozzi and expressed her sincere welcome to his visit. Yu Jihong introduced the overall layout, educational philosophy and construction achievements of Beijing Normal University, with a focus on showcasing the outstanding progress made by the chemistry discipline in basic research and the transformation of research results. She expressed her willingness to promote the establishment of a long-term cooperation mechanism for talent cultivation and scientific research innovation between Beijing Normal University and Stanford University in relevant fields, and jointly explore a new pattern of collaborative win-win.
During the interactive session, teachers and students on the spot actively raised questions and exchanged views on the application of bioorthogonal chemistry. Professor Bertozzi addressed the teachers and students, encouraging them to have the courage to raise questions, break the impossible, and while delving deeply into their specialties, pay attention to interdisciplinary cooperation, and forge ahead firmly on the path of scientific research.
Fang Weihai, on behalf of Beijing Normal University, presented Professor Bertozzi with a souvenir medal, expressing sincere gratitude for her wonderful report and profound enlightenment for scientific research.
