Beijing Normal University and UNESCO Jointly Promote Digital Education for Girls in Africa

On October 16, 2024, the UNESCO Prize for Girls' and Women's Education award ceremony was held in Paris, France. Yu Jihong, President of Beijing Normal University, was invited to attend the event. During the "Outlook: Strengthening Digital Skills for African Girls" session, she delivered a speech and announced the cooperation project of Beijing Normal University and UNESCO with the theme of “Closing the Digital Divide: Ensuring Gender-Transformative Digital Skills Education for Women and Girls.” This project aims to enhance digital education for girls in Ghana and Tanzania by supporting teacher professional development, organizing digital education activities for girls, and strengthening educational exchanges between China and Africa.

Zhou Zuoyu from Beijing Normal University participated in a roundtable discussion and shared BNU's innovative initiatives aimed at increasing female participation in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).


On October 17, the UNESCO working group participated in a project cooperation discussion meeting. They engaged in in-depth discussions with officials from UNESCO headquarters, relevant countries, and representatives from the Ministries of Education of Ghana and Tanzania to clarify the project's implementation plan.


Beijing Normal University has established a long-term partnership with UNESCO to jointly promote global educational development. In recent years, the two parties have organized a series of influential international conferences and educational training cooperation projects focused on digital education, girls' education, and teacher education. These initiatives have significantly enhanced the collaboration between Beijing Normal University and UNESCO.
