Professor Shi Peijun's Team from the State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Disaster Risk Reduction at Faculty of Geographical Science Published a Study in Science Bulletin

Recently, a research team led by Professor Shi Peijun from the State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Disaster Risk Reduction, Faculty of Geographical Sciences, Beijing Normal University, published a study titled "Elevated Oxygen Partial Pressure Reduces Population Exposure to Hypoxia over the Qinghai–Xizang Plateau" in Science Bulletin

Through comprehensive analysis, the research elucidates the multi-year climatology and spatiotemporal dynamics of PO2 across the QXP, quantifies the relative influence of key environmental drivers, and evaluates associated changes in population exposure to hypoxic conditions. Their findings demonstrate that increasing oxygen partial pressure has significantly reduced population exposure to hypoxia throughout the QXP region. These results provide groundbreaking insights into climate-mediated hypoxia alterations and establish an empirical foundation for developing targeted health risk mitigation strategies in high-elevation regions globally.
