Confucius Institute in Quebec hosted Mandarin enthusiasts video contest

Confucius Institute in Quebec (established by Beijing Normal University and  Dawson College of Canada) had partnered with Septdays Media to hold a Mandarin video contest named learn Chinese, make friends everywhere to mark the 50th anniversary of China-Canada diplomatic relations.

This contest lasted for 2 months and ended on October 13th which is the 50th anniversary day of China-Canada diplomatic ties. BNU strongly supported this contest. Nie Daxin, associate professor from School of Chinese Language Literature of BNU was one of the 8 expert judges reviewed in detail and was highly praised by the host.


This host received 42 works from August 16th to September 30th and over 1.5 million people watched the works. Among the contestants, the youngest was 5 years old and the eldest was 17 years old. Finally 6 contestants were awarded Popularity Award and 8 contestants were awarded Jury Award. The forms of works included story telling, poetry reading and talent show, which showed enthusiasm and proficiency of learning Chinese.


This contest was also supported by Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal. The teachers and students from Jiahua School of Montreal and Montreal Chinese School were active in this contest. The contest was successfully held and has a great significance in promoting communication and friendship between China and Canada.
