1. Conference Info
The International Young Scholars Conference is an important part of the Beijing International Film Festival·The 28th College Student Film Festival. The Conference focuses on the academic speculations of fresh young scholars, and aims to build a platform to encourage young scholars to share academic views, promote the exchange of young people in the field of film academics, and also promote the thought communication between senior scholars and young scholars. The theme of the forum is " Updating Methods, Approaches and Paradigms of Film Studies ". There are four sub forums under which young scholars at home and abroad are invited to conduct in-depth discussions.
Digital technology, media carriers and cultural trends have developed rapidly, and the forms of exchanges and cooperation with films have been continuously enriched, showing a trend of rapid changes. Under the background of digital technology, media convergence and industrial transformation, many basic concepts in the field of film research, such as image, space, time, medium and symbol, may have changed. Therefore, in the study of film, film may not be the only research object. We need more interdisciplinary and theoretical perspectives and paths to study film and its media environment and ecology. The " Updating Methods, Approaches and Paradigms of Film Studies " encourages young scholars to think about the frontier theoretical and practical issues of the current academic circle with an open attitude, maintain integrity and innovation, put forward cutting-edge viewpoints, and revisit classic theories. In the review and reflection of the film theory, the archaeology and innovation of the media, the creation and connotation of the film text and so on, expand the research perspective and method, put forward the fresh academic arguments and thoughts.
2. Panel Info
Technological Change and the Aesthetic Turn of Film Ontology
Since the birth of the film, every stage has been accompanied with technological and aesthetic changes. The development of technology is the great driving force for the innovation and development of the film industry. The influence of technology development is always obvious in the process of film production, projection and viewing. The construction of technical aesthetics dimensions, virtual reality trends, and new aesthetics in film research are all exploring the breaking and fusion of film technology, film text, film aesthetics, and the film market. They are also exploring the relationship between technology and film and combing its aesthetic implication and aesthetic characteristics. This is a problem worthy of research and attention at the moment. Young scholars are welcome to maintain a rational and deliberative attitude, find a corresponding balance between technology and film, and promote the vigorous development of film art.
Media Convergence and Transmedia Storytelling of Films
Under the trend of pluralistic integration of various media, the conversion and integration of old and new media has promoted the transformation of the film. The film breaks the barriers of different media, and begins to actively integrate with other media in an open attitude. A series of innovations have been made in film creation, industrial development and cultural value within the text, such as the unique narrative of the Interactive Film and the new aesthetic meaning of Desktop Film. With strong and inclusive media integration, the film can carry richer content and more innovative forms, connecting audiences with multiple spaces and multiple media. We welcome young scholars to re-examine the film under the condition of media convergence from a multi-dimensional perspective and analyze more possibilities of film creation in the future.
Digital Humanities and Film Research
In the context of the digital age, "digital" and "humanities" began to break down barriers and gradually merged into a new vision of thinking. Research with numbers as tools and humanities as the basis has gradually emerged in the field of film research. Digital quantitative research methods such as algorithm thinking and big data thinking are more integrated with traditional film history research, research on film author style, and film audiovisual language analysis to create a quantifiable film "database". This makes traditional film research present a more rational and rigorous new look, and reconstructs a new paradigm for film academic research. The research enthusiasm in this field has gradually increased in recent years. Overlapping innovations have occurred in film research and film history research, and the understanding of the content of humanities research has also increased in breadth and depth. The forum encourages young scholars to try to expand film research thinking, integrate academic rationality and creativity, and cut into film research from a digital humanistic perspective.
Optional Topic
In addition to the above topics, we also welcome young scholars to think and study other phenomena and front problems in the development of Chinese film in recent years, and encourage interdisciplinary thinking about the relationship between film and other disciplines. We fully encourage young scholars to propose cutting-edge theoretical frameworks and publish front opinions outside the traditional theoretical framework, injecting fresh vitality into the field of film criticism and theory.
