BEIJING, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Although Chinese figure skater Zhu Yi did not perform well in the women's single skating short program team event at the Beijing Winter Olympics on Sunday morning, China still made its first appearance in the free skating team event at the Winter Olympics. Jin Boyang, the “prince” of men’s singles, said that he understood she was under great pressure. He hoped that the girl who trained the hardest in the team could manage and release stress in time to conduct herself in the best status.
The women's short program team figure skating competition began at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. The result determined whether China could enter the free skating competition and the line-up for the men's singles figure skating competition for the team event beginning at 11:50 a.m.. Jin also followed the competition.
“I’ve prepared myself for different results. If I could participate in the free skating, I would try my best. But if not, then, I would keep training in the afternoon. Fortunately, we ultimately edged into the free skating team competition for the first time. So, I think it is a historic breakthrough in some way,” Jin said.
When it comes to Zhu Yi and her error-riddled performance, Jin showed empathy and remarked, “In fact, she’s under huge pressure. As an Olympic debutant of the host country, she was undoubtedly more stressed. And it reminds me of another event held in China when all of my teammates and I also tried to relieve pressure.”
“Zhu Yi has been training very hard,” Jin added, “There were 5 test events with great intensity, but she performed quite satisfying.”
“We will soothe her, of course. And I hope that she can adjust herself in time to perform at the normal level, and to show her best in the upcoming competitions,” Jin concluded.
