McCloskey's confidence stems from his in-depth participation and observation in the pandemic prevention efforts for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games. At present, the COVID-19 is still spreading worldwide. As the first global comprehensive sports event held as scheduled since the outbreak of the virus, this sports event identifies epidemic prevention as the top priority. According to the Playbook of the Games issued by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee (Beijing 2022), China has taken various prevention and control measures, striving to ensure the safety of all parties in the game.

Nevertheless, some Western media distorts China's efforts as "too harsh", "divulging personnel information" and so on, attempting to smear China's anti-pandemic actions and spoil the atmosphere. What are facts? The athletes and relevant parties are the best judges.

For example, American short track speed skater Maame Biney said, "I think it will be very safe to go to Beijing because I know there are many athletes and staff to protect everyone."

"If you come here, in this closed loop, in this 'bubble' - we've been in it for a week now - then you're really safe," Dirk Schimmelpfennig, head of the German Winter Olympic delegation, said in an interview with the German media.

Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr., chairman of the Coordination Commission of the IOC for the Beijing Winter Olympics, arrived in Beijing recently. In an interview, he commented that the epidemic prevention measures of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games are safe and effective, and with its closed loop may be "the safest place in the world".

As described by all participants in the Winter Olympics, a series of precise, effective, rigorous and scientific pandemic prevention policies issued by China have provided a real sense of safety to all athletes and relevant personnel, making them more concentrated on the competition.

Among them, a mobile app called "Dong Ao Tong" (My 2022) launched by Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee has made a significant difference in accurate pandemic prevention and control. Users can upload their health status every day and enjoy convenient services such as navigation, translation, and catering on My 2022. A similar mobile application was used at the Tokyo Olympics last year.

In response to some malicious hype from the western influences in terms of data security, the IOC has publicly stated that My 2022 has no critical risks through the evaluation of two independent cyber security agencies. Moreover, the installation of My 2022 is not required, and related personnel can fill in information through the online health monitoring system. China also states that security measures have been taken to protect the personal information in My 2022, for example, encryption, ensuring the security of personal privacy. The hype of the western influences are merely fables, and the security of My 2022 can withstand all tests.

It is worth mentioning that technology plays a vital role in holding safe Olympic Games. For example, in a smart restaurant in the main media center of the Beijing Winter Olympics, robots make meals behind glass screens and then deliver the dishes to the diners through a food delivery system on the ceiling, minimizing human contact. In addition, the lobby of the Winter Olympic Village, as well as the fitness center and other public areas, is equipped with health and environment monitoring and regulation systems. With strict pandemic prevention measures and technology, the Winter Olympic Village will be perfectly safe.

Safety is the premise for a great event. Human life is of the top priority facing the pandemic. Some western influences make a fuss about the pandemic prevention policy and the safety of the Winter Olympics, being disrespectful to all the participants of the Winter Olympics and human life in particular.

It turns out that all malicious slander and defamation are in vain. At present, more than 30 international dignitaries are confirmed to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics and related activities, presenting a positive affirmation of China's achievements in fighting the pandemic and the full confidence in the safe holding of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
