On June 7, 2011, a ten-member delegation from the University of Maryland, headed by UM President, Wallace Loh, visited our university and met with Chairperson of University Council Liu Chuansheng and BNU President Zhong Binglin, Executive Vice President Shi Peijun, Vice Presidents Chen Guangju and Hao Fanghua, and other school leaders.
Chairperson of University Council Liu welcomed the visitors, and exchanged ideas with President Loh on ways to further strengthen cooperation and promote the internationalization processes of the two schools. President Zhong and President Loh then signed a macro- cooperation agreement, having reviewed existing substantive cooperative work between the two universities on education, geo-science, and the teaching of Chinese, among other areas, and they discussed possible ways to expand into other areas of cooperation.
Academician Xu Guanhua also met with the guests. He spoke of the scientific cooperation of the two universities on global change and earth system science, and he said he hopes that the two schools can strengthen exchange and cooperation by establishing joint institutes.
After the meeting, President Loh and his party visited BNU’s Institute of Global Change and Earth System Science and National Key Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning.
