Published: 2011-05-05

This year marks the 92nd anniversary of the May 4th Movement. In order to carry on and promote the spirit of May 4 and to encourage all BNU Youth League members to adhere to their ideals and faith and to study hard to become qualified professionals, the BNU Youth League Committee decided to seize the opportunity of the series of activities, “Excel in Our Performance,” to promote CCP building and Youth League building. The committee held a series of activities in memory of the 92nd Anniversary of the May 4th Movement in the name of “Everlasting May 4th Spirit and Regretless Youth.” On the afternoon of May 4, a “Youth with no Regrets Following the Precepts of the Communist Party” Symposium took place. Party Secretary Liu Chuansheng and Vice Secretary Tian Hui attended the symposium, along with student and teacher representatives. Heads of the Department of Publicity of the BNU Party Committee, the BNU Youth League Committee, and of other departments, as well as League cadres, representatives of the School Students’ Union, the School Postgraduates’ Union, and excellent youth representatives also attended the symposium.

The symposium was held in a relaxing atmosphere. Participants took the floor to express their understanding about the May 4th spirit. Centering on the “Three combinations” put forward by President Hu on the 100th anniversary of Qinghua University and the “Five hopes” put forward by Prime Minister Wen in his meeting with Youth representatives (adhere to one’s faith, be good at learning, pay attention to morality, be independent, strive to be the best), participants say that these are the ardent expectations of the Party and county of many young people and they should also be the direction in which young people develop themselves. Young people should keep working hard to improve their ideology and ability so as to make his or her tribute to the 90th anniversary of the Party with more achievements.

On behalf of the School Party Committee, Secretary Liu gave a greeting for the holiday. Liu said that, inspired by the spirit of the May 4th Movement, BNU students have gathered around the Party, keeping up with the times. They study hard and work with diligence, they strive to excel, and they try to be innovative. These are the fresh troops who will serve the school and the social and economic development of the society. They are ahead of their time. Young people are the most active and vital force in Chinese society. They are trustworthy, responsible, and promising. The Party and county will see to the growth of the youth, and the school also puts great faith in them. Liu wants students to carry on the May 4th spirit and promote the university spirit of “democracy, openness, down-to-earth innovation, and participation.” Young people should work in accordance with the scientific method, acquire knowledge, cultivate innovative ways, train their minds, and become pioneers in innovation. Young people should bear in mind the need to cherish lofty ideals, keep the world in mind, be creative, energetic and enterprising, be willing to sacrifice, have the courage to take on social responsibility, and contribute to the building of a world-class, comprehensive, research-oriented university with its own characteristics, thereby contributing to a brilliant chapter in the story of youth serving the motherland.

The symposium further reinforced students’ determination and confidence in following the Party to build socialism with Chinese characteristics, enhanced their May 4th spirit, sense of mission and sense of responsibility to dedicate themselves to service to the country. It also created a positive atmosphere for public opinion through a series of events in memory of the 90th anniversary of the Party.
