On March 28, elective Special Topic classes for Central Bureau-level cadres began at BNU. Zhang Cheng, Deputy Inspector of the Education Department and the Central Organization Department Cadre, Liu Chuansheng, the University Party Secretary of the CPC Committee, and Wang Binlin, Vice-Party Secretary of the CPC Committee at BNU, attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee, Wang Binlin.
In his speech, Secretary Liu gave a warm welcome to the students who are going to take the classes, spoke of our school’s history, and gave an overview of recent developments. Secretary Liu said that Beijing Normal University will treat the development of cadres training base and the electives teaching for cadres as an important part of training qualified students and another critical opportunity for BNU to become a world-class university. The school is fully prepared -- with all of the university's resources, with the best faculty, the best quality service support, and the most stringent organization and management -- for the Central Bureau cadres’ education. Beijing Normal University is striving to build one of the best bases for the education and training of cadres.
It is to implement the goal set by the 17th CPC National Congress and the 17th Fourth Plenary Session as regards the large-scale training of cadres in the spirit of innovation and initiative, with the further goal of promoting the comprehensive reform of cadres’ training and education, meeting cadres' learning expectations, and advancing the development of a learning organization-styled Party. In 2010, our school was selected as one of seven universities to carry out a self-study for party cadres. Party Secretary Liu Chuansheng and Principal Zhong Binglin led the first group, and the Party at BNU will be responsible for the coordination and management of the training. In accordance with the requirements of the Central Organization Department, our university has taken full advantage our school's long academic experience, optimized resource allocation, and “excellent teachers’ team," highlighted by unique features and customized courses. The training at BNU has been widely welcomed by the students, and the enrollment, a total 2,000 trainees, is among the best among colleges and universities.
This is the second year for the elective courses at BNU. In accordance with the related requirements of the Central Organization Department, BNU has adjusted its curriculum, introducing courses that include “Philosophy and Strategic Thinking,” “Psychology and Management,” “Traditional Chinese Culture and the Principles of Government,” “Transformation of and Strategy for China’s Economic Development,” “Improving Government Administration and the Capability of Directors,” and “New Media and a National Cultural Strategy.” Moreover, the revised curriculum will include some ten lectures, which will include “Mencius and Traditional Chinese People-Centered Thinking,” “The Traditional Polite Chinese Culture,” “Communication by and Persuasion of Directors,” and “Healthy Attitudes and Efficient Management,” among others. More than 2,000 BNU students have registered for the elective courses, a number higher than that at the other universities involved in the program.
After the opening ceremony, Professor Li, from the School of Chinese Language and Literature, spoke on “Mencius and Traditional Chinese People-Centered Thinking.” The talk was favorably received.
