Professor Wei Liqun Speaks on “Strengthening and Innovating Social Management”
On November 18, 2011, Professor Wei Liqun, standing vice president of the Chinese Academy of Governance and dean of the BNU Chinese Academy of Social Management，gave a lecture on strengthening and innovating social management. He spoke to the leaders of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee as part of their featured course in “decision making in crisis, and public communication.” Liu Chuansheng, BNU Party Secretary, presided over the meeting.
Strengthening and innovating social management is a significant move that relates to the development of the country as a whole. It is practically and strategically important in a long tem. To begin his speech, Professor Wei Liqun elaborated on the meaning of social management from three points of view: the large scale, the medium scale and the small scale of current social management activities. Social management, the processes or activities that directly or indirectly serve, moderate, organize or monitor each social dimension, is set up by the Party Committee, governments and other social organizations under systems of regulation that include laws, rules, policies, moralities and values.
Having introduced the subject, Professor Wei Liqun then discussed the three main aspects of strengthening and innovating social management, namely: six challenges facing social management, seven tasks to establish systems for social management, and six protection measures for social management. Professor Wei’s speech applied theories to practice, which stimulated dynamic interaction with listeners.
Professor Wei made an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities faced by today’s social managers and discussed the work of strengthening and innovating in social management. He also provided feasible suggestions with both academic and practical meanings.
After concluding his remarks, Professor Wei gave two books as gifts to each participant: Selected Cases of Innovative Social Management (volumeⅠⅡⅢ) edited by professor Wei, and his new book, Social Management and Social Construction. He encouraged students to be constantly thinking and innovating at their own positions, to achieve the best that can be accomplished in scientific and legalized social management.
Party Secretary Liu Chuansheng emphasized in his speech that strengthening and innovating social management is a major strategic move being deployed by the Party Central Committee at the current time, when the economic system, social structure, pattern of interests and ideology are undergoing profound change.
