The Contract Signing Ceremony for Cooperation between the College for Criminal Law Science at Beijing Normal University and the Sociology and Criminal Justice Department at University of Delaware
The College for Criminal Law Science in our university held a contract signing ceremony with the Sociology and Criminal Justice Department at University of Delaware in the main building of BNU on the afternoon of April 6, 2011. Professor Xiumei Wang from BNU presided at the ceremony, and professors from both universities attended: George Watson, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware, Professor Aaron Fitchelberg, Associate Professor Ivan Sun, all of whom are from the University of Delaware; Professor Binglin Wang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of BNU, Professor Mingxuan Gao, Honorary Dean of the College for Criminal Law Science, Professor Bingzhi Zhao, Dean of the Law School in the College for Criminal Law Science, Professor Xiumei Wang, Assistant Dean in College for Criminal Law Science and Deputy Director of the Research Institute for International Criminal Law, all of whom are from BNU, as well as thirty students from both universities.
Professor Binglin Wang, representing BNU, welcomed the delegation from the University of Delaware, and he expressed his deep anticipation for mutual academic coordination in the future. The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware, George Watson, briefly introduced the basic information of his university as well as his anticipation for the upcoming academic cooperation. Professor Bingzhi Zhao brought up the advantages of the current academic climate at the College for Criminal Law Science and anticipated the deeper academic coordination with the University of Delaware. Professor Bingzhi Zhao expressed gratitude for the academic communication during the visitation of the delegation from the University of Delaware. In the end, the mutual universities signed the contract and exchanged gifts. In terms of the contract, the mutual universities will strengthen the coordination and cooperation on research and exchange of delegations and students.
After the ceremony, Professor Aaron Fitchelberg and Associate Professor Yixian Sun attended the twenty-ninth and thirtieth “BNU Criminal Law Topic Forums” and presented enlightening lectures. Professor Fitchelberg delved deeply into the reasons for the development of the International Humanitarian Law. He also investigated the formation and development of the International Criminal Law from the philosophical perspective of Legal Ontology. The presentation of Professor Sun discussed four issues as following: the general trends of people’s attitudes toward policemen; the differences between people’s trust in policemen in urban and rural areas; the influence of social capital and political participation on people’s trust in policemen; and the influence under the same circumstances of people’s trust in policemen in different cities. According to research statistics, Professor Sun concluded that people’s attitudes toward the Resident Committee and their own personal safety can affect their trust in policemen. During the next discussion, attendants actively participated and discussed common interests with Professor Fitchelberg and Professor Sun.
