On April 27, 2019, under the guidance of the Social Media Processing Committee of the Chinese Information Society of China, it was co-organized by the School of Journalism and Communication of Beijing Normal University, the Institute of Artificial Intelligence of Tsinghua University, and the Center for Social Computing and Information Retrieval of Harbin University of Technology. China's first social robot forum was held at Beijing Normal University.
This forum invited 8 experts and scholars from academia and industry to explore the hotspots and frontiers of social robotics from the perspective of social science and computational science, and explore the academic research and technical solutions for building smarter social robots. In addition, six guests were invited to participate in the topic discussion.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Yu Guoming, Executive Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication of Beijing Normal University, and Professor Liu Ting, Director of the Social Media Processing Committee (SMP) of the Chinese Information Society of China and Vice President of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence of Harbin University of Technology respectively delivered speeches.

The forum was organized around eight topics. Professor Zhang Hongzhong from the School of Journalism and Communication of Beijing Normal University, Associate Professor Huang Minlie from the Department of Computer Science of Tsinghua University, and Associate Professor Zhang Weinan from the School of Computer Science and Technology of Harbin University of Technology presided over the meeting.

Yu Guoming, Executive Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, Beijing Normal University, published the topic “Basic Logic and Operational Paradigm of Interdisciplinary Research in Communication Studies”. The starting point model of the intersection of communication logic and technical logic was elaborated. Communication studies has opened up several innovative dimensions and valued its innovation and development.

Prof. Li Hang, IEEE Fellow and Director of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of Byte Beat Technology Co., Ltd. delivered a speech titled “Natural Language Dialogue: Where Are the Opportunities for Future Technology Development?”. He summarized the status quo, achievements, challenges and practical techniques of natural language dialogue technology, pointed out the importance of creating value for users for the development of dialogue technology, and summarized the development opportunities of the emerging dialogue technology. Finally, he proposed the general principles that should be followed in designing and developing a dialogue system.

Wu Youzheng, an algorithmic scientist at the Speech Semantics and Dialogue Laboratory of Jingdong Artificial Intelligence Business Department, gave a speech entitled "Natural Language and Dialogue Technology and Practice". He shared the research progress of human-computer dialog system in recent years, and showed the participants the application of intelligent robots in customer service, retail, medical treatment and municipal administration.

Duan Nan, a researcher at the Natural Language Computing Group of Microsoft Research Asia, gave a detailed introduction to the pre-training model from a professional perspective with the title "Training-based natural language processing and multimodal learning." He first reviewed the representative pre-training techniques in the NLP and CV fields, then introduced the latest work on pre-training NLP and multi-mode learning, and finally summarized the main challenges of the current pre-training method and discussed possible future directions.

Professor Zhang Hongzhong from the School of Journalism and Communication of Beijing Normal University delivered a speech entitled “Political Robots in Social Virtual Space”. He believes that the current social network space is entering the state of "human + social robot". In the speech, he introduces the emergence and widespread application of political robots, analyzes the behavior, purpose and effect of political robots, and analyzes them in the field of communication. The application was explained.

Professor Che Wanxiang from the School of Computer Science and Technology of Harbin University of Technology gave a speech entitled “Natural Language Understanding in Task-based Dialogue System”. He first reviewed the history of natural language understanding and recent research progress, and then introduced the research work on the two key issues of joint learning and small data learning, and finally introduced the dialogue technology platform.

Chen Haiqing, senior technical expert of Alibaba's Intelligent Services Division, delivered a speech entitled “Ali Xiaomi – Technical Practice of Intelligent Human-Computer Interaction”. Taking Ali "Xiaomi" as an example, he introduced the practice and application of intelligent Q&A, intelligent dialogue and other technologies in the field of intelligent services.

Dr. Wang Zhuoran, founder and CEO of Triangle Beast Technology, delivered a speech titled “Open Domain Non-Task-Driven Dialogue System – Technology and Practice”. He believes that the open domain dialogue system plays an important role in the process of dialogue-based human-computer interaction, such as emotional companionship, smooth dialogue, and topic guidance. It has gradually become one of the indispensable basic capabilities of domestic dialogue-based interactive devices. He then shared the practical experience of the Triangle Beast itself for various technical issues in the system.

The round table after the keynote speech was equally exciting. The conference was hosted by Associate Professor Huang Minlie, Department of Computer Science, Tsinghua University. Seven speakers gave an in-depth and basic research on social robots, the issues of how to develop effective dialogue and cooperation among different disciplines, and how to build a harmonious society were discussed.
In the roundtable discussion, in response to the question "Can social robots participate in human activities", Professor Qin Bing of the School of Computer Science and Technology of Harbin University of Technology believes that emotion is an important factor for social robots.

At the end of the meeting, Professor Liu Ting made a concluding speech. He started from the conceptual difference between human-machine dialogue and social robots, and put forward constructive opinions on the combination of industry and education and the intersection of arts and sciences in the context of technology integration.
