BNU Publishing House Honored at Ceremony of the Chinese Government Nomination Award for Publishing
March 18, 2011, the second ceremony was held honoring the winners of the Chinese Government Nomination Award for Publishing. These awards are commonly regarded as the most prestigious prizes by China’s media and publishing industries. This year, BNU Publishing House was praised as the big winner, receiving the awards for Leading Publisher, for outstanding publishing professional, and receiving the Book Award. Winning these awards is considered a great accolade by the Chinese publishing industry and by China in general.
The Chinese Government Nomination Award for Publishing, founded in 2007, is the top prize established by the state for the media and publishing industries. Winners are to be selected every three years. The Award speaks to the rapid development of these industries in China and is of significant influence in publishing and academic circles and for the Chinese culture in general.
The second Chinese Government Nomination Award for Publishing was a highly competitive process, and so the odds of winning an award were high against it. Award winners were selected through a series of screening processes, by grass-roots recommendations, expert evaluation, and other professional input. Since late September, 2010, when the selection was first started, 60 kinds of books has been chosen from nearly 500,000 submissions; 50 leading publishers from 589 candidates; 380 audio-visual materials producers; 250 e-journal presses; 8,189 companies of publication and printing and more than 20,000 periodicals; state-owned bookstores and distribution networks; and copyright authorities. Among the 50 leading publishers, 26 are publishing houses.
Also chosen were 70 outstanding publishing professionals, including outstanding editors, from those working on over 10 million journals, press, publications, audio-visual products, e-products, Internet publishing, the news media, and education and scientific research journals. Among these 70 professionals, only 27 are from the publishing industry.
The books selected this year are creative in concept and reflect both future trends and the anticipated needs and demands of the marketplace. The selected leading publishers and outstanding professionals in the publishing industry are representative of the fact that the media and publishing industries in China are making steady progress, continually proposing new ideas and accelerating their own development. BNU Publishing’s winning the second Chinese Government Nomination Award for Publishing marks the fact that we are growing and have moved into a new stage of development.
