The sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of China-Switzerland diplomatic relations was celebrated by a week-long exhibition entitled “Concerned About Climate Change”. Vice-president Ling Sun attended the opening ceremony on December 3 and made a speech. Representatives from the Embassy of Switzerland in China, the Embassy of the United Kingdom in China, the Clean Air Initiative: the Asia Center (CAI-Asia), the Asia Foundation, the Program of Low Carbon City in China, the Program of Climate Change Adaptation in China, Beijing Association of Science and Technology, the Department of Environmental Protection Motor Vehicles Emission Monitoring and Control Center and other units attended the opening ceremony.
Vice President Ling Sun began the discussion by outlining the main efforts of research in the climate change field at our university. The Science and Technology Counselor of the Embassy of Switzerland in China Markus Reubi, the counselor of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation Walter Meyer, and the chief scientist of the Global Change and Earth System Science Research Institute in our university John Moore made keynote speeches respectively, introducing the progress in the climate change area in Switzerland, Sino-Swiss cooperative programs on climate change, and our university’s research on glaciers and climate change. The participants of the exhibition had an in-depth discussion on issues of climate change.
The one-week long exhibition “Concern about the Climate Change” was held at the Four-season Hall in the main building of Beijing Normal University on December 3 and ran through December 9.
