BNU recruitment announcement of Changjiang Distinguished Professor and Changjiang Chair Professor

Beijing Normal University is a national key university directly under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, one of the top ten state key universities. It is included in the state "211 Project" and the state "985 Project" for key university construction. It is one of China’s most important bases for cultivation of high-ranking professionals and for multidisciplinary and high-level scientific research activities. In the new historical period, Beijing Normal University has established the construction goal of “a comprehensive, unique, and research-oriented world-renowned high-level university.” In order to strengthen the disciplinary construction and to increase the quality of talent cultivation and scientific research levels of the university as well as to support the development of the university, we sincerely invite outstanding talent from home and abroad to join the team at BNU to help create and contribute to the new splendor of BNU.

1 Departments Actively Recruiting

2. Qualifications for Application

( 1 )An accomplished record of scholarship,disciplined work ethic,and the attainment of national and international recognition.
( 2 )All scientific projects and research should be positioned at the horizons of the candidate’s field and should possess leading scientific approaches, demonstrating ability to lead the academic group to the highest international standards.
( 3 )Applicants must be qualified to teach core general education courses and assume teaching duties.
( 4 )All applicants must hold a PhD. Nationals must hold the status of professor or other similar title. Foreign applicants must hold the rank of assistant professor or above, or other corresponding positions at high-level universities.
( 5 )The university requires a maximum age limit of 45 for natural sciences applicants, and 50 for humanities applicants. For Chair Professors, the maximum age limit is 55 for natural sciences applicants, and 60 for humanities applicants.
(6 )Candidates should be able to fully perform their job responsibility as Changjiang Distinguished Professors. Candidates of the Changjiang Distinguished Professorship are required to work on the campus for a minimum period of nine months, and the Chair Professor’s post requires a stay on campus of 2-3 month period.
( 7 )Applicants should be healthy, be of outstanding moral character, and be upright in style, possessing team spirits and organizational and leadership skills.

3. Salary Package

( 1 )In addition to enjoying annually a 100,000 RMB national government grant, Changjiang Distinguished Professors are entitled to the national standard salary, insurance and welfare services. Chair Professors receive a monthly stipend of 15,000 RMB. Scholars will be paid according to the months he or she actually works.
( 2 )Within the duration of employment, Changjiang Distinguished Professors will be provided with 500,000-2,000,000RMB funds for scientific research, depending on their discipline.
( 3 )The university will provide necessary resources to conduct research, including labs, offices, and instruments, and Changjiang Distinguished Professors will have guaranteed enrollment of PhD and postdoctoral candidates.
( 4 )During the period of employment,the university will provide an apartment for professors to rent, and will assist in finding employment for spouses and schooling for children.

4. Application Materials and Recruitment Process

( 1 )Candidate portfolio.
( 2 )Written application letter.
( 3 )Basic personal introduction, including copies of diplomas, degrees, appointment certificate for professional and technical positions, and all other corroborating documents, and work CV. Please include also a description of your spouse and children’s circumstances and accompanying documents.
( 4 )Entire copies of 5 significant and original research papers and the covers and tables of contents of the appropriate issue of the journal. Please also include copies of the first page of all other representative papers, and covers and tables of contents of the appropriate journals.
( 5 )Proofs of SCI, EI, SSCI, CSSCI records and citations by others of papers listed in the application documents (original documents, which should already be notarized with the proper seals).
( 6 )Copied evidence of scientific research projects, award certificates of scientific research achievements, patent certificates, and monograph contents.
( 7 ) Documentation of important positions held by the candidate both at home and abroad.
( 8 ) Documentation of positions held by the candidate at international conferences and copies of letters or notification inviting the candidate to speak at the general assembly or to make a special presentation.
( 9 )Descriptions of one’s work philosophy and scholarship prospectus.

All documents listed above must be sent by mail to Beijing Normal University Human Resources Office. The university’s Academic Committee will review applicants’ materials and issue preliminary recommendations. The packets will be reviewed by peer experts, and will then be submitted to the Ministry of Education for approval.
