[Achievement] Zhang Yifan, Ph.D. candidate at the School of Nuclear Science and Technology won the Best Academic Report Award at the International Surface Treatment and Modification Technology Conference 2017

On November 21-25, 2017, at the 2017 Symposium on Surface Treatment and Modification Technologies (STMT2017) held in Jeju, Korea, Laboratory of Micro-arc Oxidation at the School of Nuclear Science and Technology Professor Xue Wenbin advised Ph.D. student Zhang Yifan won the best academic report award of this session of the conference.
 
The 2017 International Surface Treatment and Modification Technology Conference was sponsored by the Korean Society of Surface Engineering and conducted academic exchanges with scholars from Japan, the United States, China, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Germany and other countries in the world. A total of 51 oral reports and 60 poster displays. At the meeting, Prof. Xue Wenbin from the School of Nuclear Science and Technology of Beijing Normal University led the Ph.D. candidates Zhang Yifan, Qu Yao and Chen Lin to attend the meeting and respectively made invited and oral presentations. The college actively supports graduate students to go abroad for academic exchanges and provides partial funding for the three students participating in this conference. The meeting selected a total of 3 best oral report award, 11 best poster award. Zhang Yifan’s "A new method of phenol degradation by micro-arc plasma electrolysis" won the best oral report award for being fresh in content of the report, fluent in English, answering the right questions and gaining peer praises.
 
Zhang Yifan’s report is mainly to explain a new method of organic wastewater degradation through cooperation with the Beijing Radiation Center, Beijing Normal University Environmental College teachers, based on the study of micro-arc oxidation, put forward the use of micro-arc discharge generated a large number of active particles Phenol wastewater was degraded rapidly, and phenol degradation mechanism was analyzed preliminarily by means of emission spectroscopy, liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. This research extends the research direction of micro-arc discharge and has good application prospect.
