Our school astronomy department successfully held the Physics of the Intracluster Medium International Symposium in April 3rd to 7 in Yingdong academic hall. Associate professor of astronomy Yu Heng, researcher professor foreign expert Paolo Tozzi and professor Zhu Zonghong jointly organized the meeting. Professor Zhong Jiayong dean of astronomy dept. gave a speech at the opening ceremony. The main purpose of the conference is to summarize the research results in the multi band field in recent years, combine the results of numerical simulation with the observed data, and explore the future research direction and prospect. The participants include more than seventy experts and scholars from the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Princeton University, Yale University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Holland Leiden Observatory, Germany Marx Planck Institute for Astrophysics, University of Nottingham in the UK, French Atomic Energy Research Institute, Italy Astrophysics Research Institute, Japan Osaka University, China National Observatory, China Institute of high energy physics, Peking University, Nanjing University and the relevant units.
The Intracluster Medium is a high temperature gas in the galaxy cluster, which is the main component of the baryon in the galaxy cluster. The study of its physical properties is of great significance to explore the formation and evolution of galaxy clusters, the dynamic characteristics, the formation mechanism of galaxies, and the formation of large-scale structure of the universe.
The research group led by the astronomy department associate professor Yu Heng, research professor Paolo Tozzi, professor Zhu Zonghong has been committed to the field of observational and theoretical studies for long. The research results of the group had been published in ApJ, A&A and other top international journals many times, and has extensive international influence.
